Yogyakarta Contemporary Music Festival

visit:Yogyakarta Contemporary Music Festival

HISTORY
YCMF began in 2004 as a continuation of several routine composition events that took place in Yogyakarta, attended only by a few local composers. These events received support from various parties involved in contemporary music, both from Indonesia and abroad, and it was suggested that the agenda be broadened with the aim of developing into a contemporary music festival on a global scale. In this way, also, the efforts required for multiple events could be consolidated into one. The inaugural Yogyakarta Contemporary Music Festival was then realized on 4 - 5 September 2004 and the following year saw YCMF 2005 from 28 - 30 September 2005.

VISION
Various genres of art music will come together in this festival. It is hoped that the event will serve as a barometer for current developments in the world of music, touching especially on issues such as technique, style and aesthetics, as well as ideology with a global culture perspective. The concerts will give the wider public an opportunity to hear music in a contemporary context and will hopefully play an important role in establishing Yogyakarta as a center of art music development. The festival can also help emerging Indonesian composers to establish themselves in the international arena of contemporary music.
