Fires Deliberately Lit by Palm Oil Company in Swamp Forest May Have Killed a Third of Rare Orangutan Population. Friends of the Earth Indonesia are taking the Aceh Governor and large palm oil company (PT, Kallista Alam) to court for illegally approving the destruction of Tripa
Friends of the Earth Indonesia are taking the Aceh Governor and large palm oil company (PT, Kallista Alam) to court for illegally approving the destruction of Tripa, an area of Peat Forests known to have the highest densities of Sumatran orangutans in the world! Destroying this for palm oil is unacceptable!
Please email the President of Indonesia: presiden@ri.go.id and CC your email to the Indonesian embassy in Australia: indonemb@kbri-canberra.org.au and tell him to uphold the law and protect the Tripa Peat Swamps of Sumatra.
Please also visit the facebook page to keep up to date with how you can help save the Tripa Peat Swamps.
Please take a few minutes to acquaint yourselves with the following case, which although apparently minor, has very important implications for environmental and forest governance, social justice, spatial planning, carbon emissions, and transparency in Indonesia. Attached are 2 draft letters: one to the judges currently trying a legal case in Banda Aceh, Sumatra Indonesia, and the other to the President of Indonesia.
